Chos Malal, first capital of Neuquén province See map

It is located on National Route 40 in a beautiful mountain valley at the confluence of the rivers Curí Leuvú and Neuquén. It was the first capital of the territory of Neuquén in 1884.

In the historic old town is the José Manuel Olascoaga Museum. This is located in the same place that, at the time of the campaign, was the headquarters of the Fourth Division of the Expeditionary Army. There you can see personal objects, photographs and lithographs belonging to the founder and first governor Olascoaga, as well as indigenous tools, minerals, fossils and other items that provide an insight into the past of the area.

You can also visit the Nursery Provincial, the Historic Municipal Archives, the Library Olascoaga and the Tourism Office, as the amphitheater, El Torreón, the House of Culture and Church María Auxiliadora.
