The origin of the name

The center of the city was born in the heart of the colony of Choele Choel, was named Villa Galese, then Tir Pentré (which in Welsh means "land of villages" and Reserve farm) in tribute to the families of this source from Chubut .

However, it was given the name of Fray Luis Beltrán in a decree of February 14, 1911, in tribute to Monk and lieutenant colonel who formed the Artillery of the Army of the Andes Field. Later the word fray was removed, to avoid confusion with the town of Mendoza of the same name.
