Neuquén's museums See map

The capital city of the province of Neuquen and the most important urban center of Patagonia has several museums that represent the cultural, artistic and history of the town and the region.

The most important of these sites is the National Museum of Fine Arts (MNBA), the only venue for this institution in the country. Therefore, it has prominent recognition and is undoubtedly a great attraction for locals and tourists wishing to enjoy works of renowned regional, national and international artist. The museum is situated in Mitre Street and Santa Cruz, in Neuquén Central Park and telephones to communicate are (0299) 4491240 or 4436268.

Other site of palaeontological interest is the Paleontology and Geology Museum of the UNCo (National University of Comahue), located on Provincial Route 51, km 65, north shore of Lake Barreales. Here you can find fossils of dinosaurs and other animals found in the region. Dino Project is in charge of the guided tours which include excavation, laboratory and showroom. To reach the museum you can call the phone (0299) 154048614 or send an email to info-turismo@proyectodino.com.ar

The museum that tells the story of Neuquén is the Municipal Museum "Dr. Gregorio Alvarez", which is located in Central Park in the former engine room of the railway. This site has data elements on paleontology, archeology, the Desert Campaign, the first Goverment of the Territory, the capital's history and the folklore that characterizes it.

Finally, you can visit the City Museum "Paraje Confluencia", built on three houses that belonged to the Colony 6 of the Traffic staff of the Old Ferroviario District from Railroad Roca, being the only exponents of types of British railways of early twentieth century. Its architectural and historical-social significance make them monuments of the city of Neuquén.
