Places to visit in Puerto Deseado See map

The Municipal Department of Tourism of Puerto Deseado offers several alternatives to surprise the visitor.

Puerto Deseado is a city located in the Deseado department of the province Santa Cruz with approximately 13,500 inhabitants. It can be reached along Provincial Route 281 and then National Route 3, both paved.

But before going somewhere, many wonder how the weather will be first. In Puerto Deseado the average annual temperature is 10 ºC in the minimum and 28 ºC the maximum in summer. In winter the average minimum is -2 ºC. 

Nature lovers can visit the different Nature Reserves: Ría Deseado, Cabo Blanco and Isla Pingüino. These three places have in common that provide accessible and close contact with the environment, flora and fauna.

Ría Deseado Nature Reserve: This site was declared a Nature Reserve for its particular characteristic of being a place where the river left its banks and was occupied by the sea. The special geological characteristics and fauna make it unique in South America.

Cabo Blanco Nature Reserve: is another unique place, in that you can see one of the surviving populations of fur seals in Argentina.

Isla Pinguino Nature Reserve: This island lies about 20 kilometers from downtown Puerto Deseado and comes after a brief browsing. There you can see and photograph the penguins and it is also a variety of rockhopper penguins.

Those looking for history, should not miss three characteristic places of the city. Mario Brozoski Museum, the Museum of the Railway Station and the commercial port.

Mario Brozoski Regional Museum: here are elements of the Swif Corvette, a frigate that sank more than two centuries ago. In 1770 the ship was stationed in the Falkland Islands and was used to "discover many sites as possible" in the Patagonian coast. But the strong winds in this region played against him when he was between San Julián and Puerto Deseado and ended up sinking.

Railway Station: the header line that came to Puerto Deseado was in this city. The building of the railway, therefore, was built with stones and magnificently. For its architectural and historic quality it was declared of National Tourist Interest and today presents a wide range of culture besides the added value that are their guides, the former railway employees. 

The port on the ria of the Deseado river is widely used for embarkation and disembarkation by the fisheries and livestock production, which means an important center for the region's economy. This makes Puerto Deseado in one of the main fishing activities center in height of Argentina.

Cabo Blanco Nature Reserve Cabo Blanco is an Nature Reserve that is close to Puerto Deseado in Patagonia. There you can visit a colony of fur seals and a lighthouse.
De los Pájaros Island Puerto Deseado is definitely a paradise for those who like to see marine wildlife.
Rockhopper penguins in Puerto Deseado There is a colony of Rockhopper penguins near Puerto Deseado. That species is found only in the southern hemisphere. Because of its accessibility and proximity, Puerto Deseado is perhaps the best place to see them.
The Historic Wagon of Puerto Deseado The historic wagon of Puerto Deseado is located at the corner of San Martin and Admiral Brown and is visited by most tourists passing through town.
Puerto Deseado: Shark Fishing Competition Since 1970 Puerto Deseado holds the Shark Fishing Competition in the Ria Deseado, organized by the Fishing Club "Piedra Toba" and the local town hall.
