Local history is rich of many contrasts and very recent. It seems that the old-Yamana, original inhabitants now extinct as a population, are still present in some discernible way not yet material. Many of the pioneers who lived with them are still here.

In that sense, it's worth touring the traditional End of the World Museum, or the rooms of the Maritime Museum (located in the building missed former prison), or the World Yamana, a new models exhibition center that reproduces scenes from daily life of the canoe, varying degrees and an amazing level of detail.

A tour by the original homestead of the city, it is done on foot or by bus, allow you a mentally reconstruct of how were the early population of the capital of Tierra del Fuego: the settlement of the missionaries, the arrival of Argentine sailors, the gold rush, the establishment of the prison, the advent of immigrant waves, the race of the Industrial Promotion and fabulous salaries ...

A good choice for this city tour is to take the Ushuaia Double Decker, a typical London double-decker bus, from whose floor is possible to have the best view of the town. The tour is complete and the bus is set down as a pub, for a coffee while deepening a historical matter guides. Another unique feature of the Double Decker is that, in its walk joins the three museums, so the passenger can take it again after their visits, to continue touring the city.

Buildings and representative sites

Ushuaia has major hotels, guest houses and family homes that provide accommodation. It combine modern buildings with old wooden and metal houses, which highlight the roofs, usually red, with a steep slope to avoid snow acumulaciÌón.
