Añelo was founded in October 1915. It is located 99 kilometers from Neuquén. Its name comes from the Mapuche language and has two meanings "threat dune" or "the place of death".
A few kilometers away is the Hydroelectric Complex of Cerros Colorados, one of the largest in the country from which generates part of the electricity consumed in the central area of Argentina, including Buenos Aires. This activity is coupled with the horticultural and livestock production, an emerging forest industry, the establishment of wineries and fruit and vegetable product processing.
Near Añelo is the dead volcano Auca Mahuida, a privileged place in the field of archeology and at the foot of the volcano is the largest site of herbivores dinosaur eggs on record. Another attraction is one of the last reservoirs of guanaco found in Patagonia.
You can access the city by the Provincial Route No. 7 (from San Patricio del Chañar southeast) or Provincial Route No. 17 (from Cutral Co southwest).
