El Hoyo is a mountainous village located northwest of the province of Chubut. Part of the Andean Region of Parallel 42 and like the rest of it peers in the region its main economic activity is the fine fruit.
The town was founded on September 5, 1953 and is on the Andes Mountains Range 220 meters above sea level.
Its name is related to the large geographical formation like a pit where is located. Although there is another version that says it is a tribute to Father Hoyos, a priest who would come to the area in 1960 integrating the expedition of Juan Fernández.
You can reach El Hoyo by National Route 40 (ex 258), which is fully paved. It is located 124 km from the city of Esquel and 140 kilometers from San Carlos de Bariloche.
The town can be visited in the four seasons, with green landscapes in which you can do sport activities, picnics and recreation.
Surrounded by lakes, rivers, mountains and valleys is very near equally charming places like El Bolsón and Lago Puelo.
Fruit production is their main activity as the area centered with an ideal climate for the production of berries such as raspberries, strawberries, cherries and currants. Such is the importance of this production that El Hoyo was declared the National Capital of Fine Fruit in 1986. So every summer in the month of January is made a festival to honor workers and fruit growers.
At the festival there are musical performances, a craft fair and many more activities. This makes celebration become more important year after year and add more visitors per day.
An important fact to consider in El Hoyo is the wide range of accommodation, where lodges, cabins, dorms, camping, there are around 420 seats. And the gastronomic area has a large variety: Restaurants, Grills, Pizza with a capacity of 135 holders.
The farm tourism is one of the main attractions in which the tourist will find the warmth of families in the region who are working on providing the best services showing how the production is, and of course offering tasting fruits and derivatives .
For tours there are farms and establishments offering a variety of products to taste and activities to be performed, such as guided tours of the production of fine fruits, vegetables, and even they will teach you the development of products such as jams, honey, preserves, cheeses or other.
You can visit the church "Maximiliano Kolbe", which was built by the people who represented the union of cultures arrivals to the region at different times. In the building you can see the architectural style of Byzantine and other locations by using local materials.
