The Provincial Snook Festival is held every February in Puerto Santa Cruz, a sporting, artistic, cultural and tourism event including craft shows, concerts, the election of the queen of the festival and the traditional fishing competition "12 hours of snook" that convenes every year more fishing enthusiasts in the region and country.
Each year the Santa Cruz River receives numerous amounts of fishermen who are followers of the sport fishing and the river offers excellent opportunities for the width of the course offering number, size and quality of fishes.
This river is also the ideal place to catch snooks coming from the sea and because of its food and the effort made to swim in ocean waters, have the peculiarity of being very big and strong, among which are found specimens of eight kilos.
The Snook Festival is the ideal opportunity for these athletes to have a fishing contest, "12 hours of snook", divided into two days of 6 hours of competition in each area between the Centennial Cross and Punta Reparo. The winners are in total over 24 thousand dollars in prize money between the categories "most pieces" and "major piece".
Moreover, the festival offers concerts and cultural events in which are recognized regional and national artists. The craft fair is another major attractive of the Festival, in which provincial and local producers in more than 80 stands located in the Plaza San Martín exhibit their productions. And to crown the event is the traditional choice of Provincial Snook Queen.
