In the month of October the city of Trevelin wears colors when the tulips bloom. The cultivation of these has become a major tourist attraction for the town which calls each year more tourists happy to see the beautiful tulips.
Since 1997 in Trevelin tulip bulbs are gorwn from the initiative of a local producer who decided to bet on this nontraditional type of business in the region. Due to favorable climate and soil, the results were very encouraging since the beginning. Currently, the city exports tulips to the world and it is largely intended to Holland.
In early May bulbs planting is carried out and in October plants complete their flowering, providing a unique show that fills of colors the valley. They can be seen mainly in the second fortnight of the month, that's why they are associated with the celebration of Mother's Day.
After flowering, flowers are cut for the plant to concentrate its growth in the bulb. These are harvested, graded by size and variety, went through a severe healthy process and are able to be packaged for marketing in the national and international floriculture market.
