Tierra del Fuego: land of extremes See map

It is impossible to understand Tierra del Fuego, the youngest province of Argentina, if it is not considered a land of extremes. Besides being literally the end of the world is an end of the far world not only by distance but by the lack of communication with the surrounding environment (still today you can only access the island by water or air).

It is also extreme its climate. When cold, justified by its latitude, we must add permanent rains that water the south coast and the low power of the sun in winter (in which shines a few hours) and summer (when most of the day it gives light but not heat).

These features make a hard zone that imposed tenacity, strength and character to its inhabitants. The immigrants (from the missionaries who arrived from Britain in the last century, to the prisoners of beginnings of the century, even those who arrived from all over the country since 1970) are representatives of pioneers groups with great daring and taste for adventure. Not only it does this attitude make its own people but also visitors including myriad of characters eager to complete feats that begin or end in the world's southernmost tip. It is this characteristic that makes Tierra del Fuego today a place unmatched in Argentina. A place where the difference in lifestyle is felt in every corner of Ushuaia, in the wide streets of Río Grande or in the northern plains.
