Puerto Madryn invites you to enjoy Easter in an original way, with a submarine Via Crucis. Near the cruise ship dock "Luis Piedra Buena" is done every year this Via Crucis which runs 500 meters below the water.
The route is similar to that by land. Father Juan Gabriel Arias goes telling through a hydrophone the cross's path while professional divers carry a 4 meters high cross. Of the twelve stations of the procession, the first and last are on the surface. The Via Crucis ends with the departure of the priest and divers carrying the cross to the shore where a big bonfire and the presence of municipal and parish choir is waiting. It should be noted that the stations are made of plastic to prevent damage by sea water.
This activity, that is made since 2001, can be witnessed from the dock and in the 2011 edition the public witnessed the sinking of the "Shepherd of the abyss", an image of Christ on an iron stand of 3 meters and a half which is who cares for the divers when they are submerged.
