The city of San Antonio Oeste and the Port of San Antonio Este have different institutions to learn about the history and culture of the region. This is the Municipal Museum and the private museum Constantine Vicci. In addition, it is in the process of building the Railroad Museum.
Housed in a historic building of the city, whose architecture delights its visitors, is the Municipal Museum of San Antonio Oeste (SAO). In the same is possible to observe part of the cultural and historical heritage of the town and the Azul Gulf region through different tools, daily utensils and documents of the past.
The museum comes with the need to disseminate the history and social memory of the region through the exhibition of objects that reflect the customs and lifestyles of early settlers, as well as the development of rail and port activity, economic motor of the development in the Atlantic region of Río Negro. And to complete the tour you can see fossils characteristic of marine micro system.
In the village surrounding the Port of San Antonio Este you can visit a small private museum belonging to Don Constantino Vicci. This resident of the town with his son makes guided tours of the museum showing visitors a collection that he managed to acquire over 30 years in the region.
There you will learn archaeological and paleontological items that belonged to indigenous peoples, a collection of plant and animal fossils, historical artifacts dating back to the desert campaign of Julio A. Roca and household and manufacturing items donated by former people.
Currently under construction it is the Railway Museum in the city of San Antonio Oeste, a project that comes after the initiative of a group of neighbors and former railway workers together with the Municipality.
Under a contract of bailment, it was established a delivery of rolling stock for use in the museum by the railway company Tren Patagónico to the local municipality. The main objective of this initiative is the presentation and dissemination of the railway activity, so as to generate a cultural tourism product of interest for residents and tourists from the Azul Gulf Coast.
Among the pieces that visitors can watch, and be amazed with, there are a dining car, a post car, a movie car, a Pullman car, a boxcar, a torpedo wagon, a slut, a van plant and a carriage house, among others.
