The Paleontological Museum Egidio Feruglio (MEF) is located on Avenida Fontana 140, Trelew. There are exhibits of fossil flora and fauna of Patagonia, but also represents the greatest predictor of South America in their specialty.
It has a total area of 3,000 m2 and an exhibition area of 600 m2. The material is arranged according to a scientific approach that takes visitors on a journey into the past of the land and sea.
The museum offers a service of guides in different languages, and tours of the fossil deposits of fauna and flora.
The "MEF" is now one of the most important scientific institutions in the country and an undisputed international reference in palaeontology, both for discovery and research as for the samples that are presented. The institution has a group of scientists and technicians in different areas that generate constant paleontological discoveries, providing new insights into the evolution of life.
When a piece is found, it is slowly and carefully began to remove. Then it is moved to the laboratory where it is cleaned and analyzed. Many fossils are found by paleontologists in various exploration campaigns, as well as residents who notified the research centers. Of all the pieces found are made replicas which are assembled skeletons for display.
It has a great infrastructure, which includes different rooms to visit, an auditorium, the dinobar for moments of relaxation, the dinoshop for souvenirs of the visit and the Paleontological Park Bryn Gwyn to live a true "scientific adventure."
The museum visit includes a tour scheduled for a timeline to the past, from the earliest human inhabitants of Patagonia Argentina until the early life of primitive microorganisms. The room for the Mesozoic Era, the dinosaurs, is undoubtedly the main section of the exhibition. The customer service is all year round, including holidays.
The building structure is composed of:
The showroom presents, for the most part, fossils of the Patagonia, and the novelty of an inner garden, which displays plants that have preserved certain features of the older ages.
