The bird watching is an activity that does not require large teams and can be done anytime, anywhere and is sometimes the perfect excuse to walk on and off of the everyday. This activity is called Ornithology and can be practiced in Trelew and its environs.
Ornithology is the branch of zoology devoted to the study of birds, including observations about their structure, classification, habits, song and flight. This activity is performed by fans and is one of the few branches of science where amateurs are the ones who promote the conservation and protection of birds and the natural environments in which they live.
Although they are everywhere, most people do not stop to see, observe and enjoy the beauty of birds.
In Trelew this activity is interesting because you can see seabirds, those ones related to the steppe, to the mountain and becuase of being a valley area that is a different type of biome to the classic Patagonian, it allows you to find other species associated with lakes, rivers and wetlands.
We all enjoyed the colorful pink flamingos, but few imagine suddenly 4,000 or 5,000 rainsign in flight and changing the blue sky by pink feathers.
Within the city itself is the lagoon "Cacique Chiquichano" the beginning of a series of lagoons that are to speak when it comes to birds. There are common species of ducks and blemishes being the protagonists the black-necked swans with their elegant, swans coscoroba and the incredible colors of pink flamingos, as well as phalaropes, some migratory birds in the northern hemisphere who on their way to the South Pole stay here for a few weeks which make spectacular flights in flocks exceeding 300.
But that's only the beginning as 7 minutes from the city you have access to this incredible place called the "Lagoons of the Ornithologist". They strung a series of lagoons that are home to over 100 species of birds, some of which have as their nesting grounds this special ecosystem. This place is not only interesting for the number of species but also for the amount of them, finding bands in excess of thousands of copies bearing the jackpot ducks spoon, who fall into more than 40,000 copies.
Among the birds that stand out are 9 species of ducks, 4 species of grebe, 3 coots, more than 4 species of herons, black-necked swans and many more. In addition to lagoons, wetlands are generated on the sides that give rise to other species such as tachuri seven colors, rushes and yellow wing varilleros among others.
Real teros, cuervillos Canada, mandolins, peak silver, caches, and many other birds have already been identified there. Between the more significant are some species of plovers, tringas and sandpipers that visit us during their migrations.
As if this was not enough, the challenge is open to discover birds that have not been seen here, birds that the guides cited as ever seen in the area and suddenly here they are seen or were saw as the cases of black-headed duck, the wood stork or white nun, species that are common elsewhere in the area but are not here, giving it a more interesting touch to these tours.
