One of the main objectives is to give them a cultural value and identity to craft activities. Dozens of local exhibitors, regional and provincial come every year to display and sell their products to visitors, giving it color and variety to the party.
The festival started in 1984 when then-mayor Oscar Altamirano established June 19 as a feast day because this is the date on which the Colonia Pastoril Valcheta was founded by presidential decree in 1889. With the passage of time was gaining more importance to achieve the designation of National Festival.
Visitors to the site of the event can visit the different booths of artisans, and enjoy fine musical performances by folk artists in the region. To the classic "matras" they added woodwork, weaving and braiding leather and other materials that give brightness and clarity to the festival.
Also during the festival you can see a photographic exhibition, the presence of prominent regional companies come to showcase their products to Valcheta and enjoy guided tour organized by the management of local tourism, such as the Petrified Forest.
All activities take place in the Municipal Sports Gym, which has increased capacity and a scenario according to regulatory measures. The last event of the festival is the election of the new National Queen of Matra.
One thing to note is that in the 2009 edition paid tribute to one of the most important crafts of the town, Sofía Huinca, as the ambassador Mapuche loom in the town par excellence.
